With a story penned by Neil Gaiman you can expect that there will be plenty of meditation involved in the build-up and this is so with the first part of a story dealing with the aftermath of the death of Batman.

We are introduced to a scene that resembles a wake for the Caped Crusader with a number of faces, some thought to be dead, from the past. The setting seems to hail back to a time in Gotham City’s history, there are a number of reference points which indeed hint that this is not modern day Gotham but not all is made clear in this first part of the story.
